Goodbye Stranger Book Report/Review 📖

Goodbye Stranger By Rebecca Stead

It’s the start of seventh grade. Three best friends both are trying to figure things out. Bridge, the main narrator, is a philosophical girl who survived from a freak accident and is trying to figure out why she is still alive. She is also trying to figure out what love is and what it means. Emily, a girl already grown up who has a sort of boyfriend, and divorced parents, is going through a hard time after people see a picture of her that wasn’t meant for social media and was meant for one person. Tabitha (Tab), a feminist trying to make a statement on women rights, after meeting a French teacher who is also a feminist, she looks up to. “She sees through everybody’s games, or so she tells the world.” Rebecca Stead (writer of Goodbye Stranger) wrote to describe Tab. Sherman (Sherm), another narrator, writes letters to his grandfather through his chapters. He doesn’t end up giving the letters to his grandfather, but makes them for him if he were. His grandfather left his family and his grandmother, and now lives in New Jersey. His grandfather contacts Sherm on occasion but Sherm never responds. He meets Bridge and wonders what its like to fall for a girl… Just as a friend? Bridge is unsure what it is like to fall for a boy. These four characters go through changes and definitely drama leading up to one specific date, February fourteenth: Valentines Day.

Inexplicably, the narrator who is unknown till the end of the book, narrates her whole experience on Valentines Day. She decided as she left home to walk to school, that she wasn’t going to go and she needed a day off. Throughout her story she talks a lot about her friends and the drama they are experiencing together. Even when her mom calls worried, she doesn’t want to talk to her mom, she just wants to be alone for the day. So she leaves the playground she was staying at and goes home, only to go outside again because her neighbor came by and she doesn’t want to be seen. It was very amusing to think that maybe the two narrators (Bridge and Sherm) would come across or acknowledge the narrator who is unknown? In the end it surprised me who the person was that was narrating many chapters. To me during her narration, she seemed like a person who did everything everyone else asked her to. When you read about her in other people’s narrations, she seemed like a confident person who was a role model. This is to show that a person can be completely different on the inside verses how they act on the out.

Praise for Goodbye Stranger
This book can teach kids to think before you do anything on electronics wether it’s posting on social media, or texting a picture to someone. It taught me to not be so nervous to go into seventh grade. I would recommend this book for kids ages 13 and up if you don’t ask permission from an adult first. There was one swear word, but this book’s setting is in middle school so it’s for older kids. Overall this is a ‘must read’ book. Every narrator has something interesting to the story to make it complete. Every narrator’s chapter fascinated me when I learned more about their perspective, problems, and take on life. Rebecca Stead is a great author who’s books I end up reading over and over again. She can keep her reader’s interested, entertained, and learning. Praise for Goodbye Stranger’s message and Rebecca Stead for bringing characters to life and creating a story I will never forget.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🍀

Happy St. Patrick’s Day bloggers! Do you have any traditions? Today when I went to school lots of people were wearing green but some were not. First thing we do on this day when we see someone wearing green… We PINCH them! I’m wasn’t really sure why then I found this online:

Eating corned beef and cabbage: This, again, is actually more of an American than Irish tradition. It dates back to the 19th century, when most Irish Americans were poor and could only afford the cheapest meat possible, corned beef. As for cabbage, it’s most likely included simply because it’s a spring vegetable. (My mom makes this every year!)

Drowning the shamrock: Simply place a clover at the bottom of your cup, fill with Guinness or Irish whiskey, and drink up. It’s up to you whether you’d like to eat the shamrock or chuck it over your shoulder for good luck. (Never tried this obviously beacause I can’t drink whiskey yet!)

Wearing green: Actually, this color association is kind of a fluke. Originally, the original color of St. Patrick’s Day was blue. But for several reasons, green prevailed. Ireland is often referred to as the Emerald Isle, and its flag displays a green stripe. Irish Catholics typically wear green (Irish Protestants typically wear orange, the other prominent color on the Irish flag). And, of course, shamrocks are green, giving the color an added advantage. (I wore a mint green shirt today!)

Pinching others who are not wearing green: Rumor has it that leprechauns — who are most often imagined wearing green getups — pinch those around them who are not sporting similarly green apparel. That has evolved into humans pinching each other to display the disapproval we think the leprechauns would be showing. You won’t be surprised to know that this, too, is a largely American tradition. The Irish leprechauns of yore didn’t even wear green. But that won’t stop strangers from taking a pinch, so choose your outfit wisely. (I’ve pinched three people already!)

I found this information on http://vox.com you could go online too to get more information on this holiday!

I wish you all luck!🍀☘🍀

see you next time…..🍀☘🍀👍🏻😊

Super Girl❤️, Ziggy Star Dust💙, and Pikachu💛!

Every month we have a ‘spirt day’ for our school. We have spirit days like pajama day, stuff animal day, crazy hair day, and character day. For character day I dressed up as super girl. This was a super fun (very last minute costume) and easy to make! Her is what I used for my costume:

~Plain blue t-shirt

~’Iron ons’ (you can get them at Michaels)

~A tutu my aunt made, but I’ve made tutu’s like the one she made me before. What you do: tie tool onto a waist band (you can do it as many times depending on how puffy you want it to be)  and then you’ve got a stylish tutu. Mine was red!

~A cape my aunt also made. (By the way I have all these items my aunt made because I wore them in the 5k run I ran, I have a post for that!)

~Pony tail holders my aunt also made. Big shoutout to her!

~Blue eye shadow.

~Some black leggings.

So that is all that I used when I put together my costume. Here’s how it turned out 😊⬇️

This is how my costume turned out–pretty cool huh? But I have to admit my costume was not as cool as my friend Käthe’s Ziggy Star Dust costume. And my costume was not as cute as my friend Amira’s Pikachu one-zy. Both of my friends blog links will be at the bottom. 👍🏻

Also if you didn’t notice there is a woman who photo bombed in the back!  Haha sorry random person if you’re reading this! 😁

Anyways, thanks for reading… Also keep being a character! 😳

See you next time….😛💃🏻🌹

P.S. Amira and Käthe’s blog are already in the blog roll 😉👍🏻

My Virtual Dog From FooPets!

Hey everybody! I didn’t post for a while because I’m on vacation at my Grandma’s house (there will be a post for that). But anyways, back to my virtual pet. I created Jackyblack on foopets.com. I named her that because then she could be twins with my other dog (not virtual, real) Blackjack! Here is what she looks like!!!

I don’t have any emojis (I would of used the arrow one) so just look down :/

SqDjfg1JPrcf

She’s sort of fuzzy right now, because when I gave him a bath–I didn’t do a very good job! Here are all the things you can do with your pet: throw the frisbee, throw the tennis ball, feed her/him food and water, take a snapshot of your pet, groom your pet, and walk your pet. If your parents won’t let you have a dog, well convince them that your capable of taking care of one with a virtual dog or cat of your choice. One thing I really like about this game is that you don’t have to buy tons of ‘extra packs’ to play the game. You can really still have fun using what is given for free without any sketchy updates. Speaking of sketchy, this game is super safe because they aren’t trying to spam you or anything similar to that. They ask you at some point to put in your birth date I just put in a random one 😉 Further more, they tell you to not put in your actual full name for your username in the chat rooms, which says a lot about how they don’t want people knowing your full name. Anyways, this is starting to sound like a parenting website so I’ll wrap it up before I triple my age!

You should really check out this website! If you end up making a virtual pet write a post about yours and leave a link to the post in the comments. Except of course if you like me, you still don’t know how to do links after almost a year of blogging! So just leave it for me to copy and paste.

See you next time….;0 :p :m… I wish I could do emojis!

P.S. I just realized that on my post I got one emoji computer generated! YAY 🙂 😉

Tosca The Opera!🔪

Hello bloggers!

This post is all about how on Thursday night I went to see Tosca the opera. Here’s a link to a summary I found helpful, because I need glasses for seeing things far away, I didn’t bring mine so I couldn’t read the english subtitles.

Link: http://classicalmusic.about.com/od/opera/qt/Tosca-Synopsis.htm

Here are the pictures I took and the moms!📷

The first picture the parents took before we drove to the city🌃 🔝

I’m in the blue dress, and the girl with her arms around the two next to her.

Ugh upside down pictures! When we got there, we were late, so right as we sat down twenty seconds later the opera had started. This is a picture of the ‘main hall’ where we went during intermission. It was super pretty, and also was creepy, because if you looked down it was a long drop!

Here’s a picture of one of the intermission scenes when we were introduced to the stage crew, actors, and more people who put on the production.

So at the end of the night performance 9:30 pm, our driver kindley took us to a gelato place! I got the tiramisu which was delicious! Then the night ended. I had so much fun all thanks to my performing arts teacher for inviting me!😁

See you next time…..👏😘🐑💤🎧📷🎵

The Kooky Run!🏃🏃🏃

This weekend I did a costume run! It’s a 5k, and your supposed to dress up really crazy! Here’s a list of some of the costumes other people were wearing, even though not a lot of people dressed up this year: bacon, couch potatoes (people ran inside a rolling couch), and these weird sunflower people. Me and my three friends dressed up as super heroes based on the color we were dressed up in. We called ourselves the super tutus! At the beginning of the race we made up a chant that goes like this: RubyRed ( I said that), SkyBlue (Piper said that), LuckyGreen (Shea said that), Perky Pink ( and Cassie said that, well sang), super tutus (all to together). Here’s a picture of our costumes!

⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

I’m the red tutu, Cassie’s in the pink, Piper’s in the blue, and Shea’s in the green. When we started out running, these people handed out free headbands. Mine has black and grey stripes. Overall, this was a super fun experience! Everyone should definitely do some kind of race near you when you get the chance! It’s a must do! Ooo that will be my next post, after my post about the Opera, which I’m going to tonight! Yep got a little sidetracked? Anyways:

See you next time!…🍍😛

The Continuous Triple Digit Clocks?🕑

So, you probably thinking how weird this title is… Well it is weird! The title is telling you what has happened to me lately. Every time I look at a clock, the time is 5:55 or 4:44! It’s so weird! Just to prove it, today every time I looked at the clock I took a picture of the numbers being all the same! ⬇️⬇️⬇️

image 2:22 pm

Don’t you like it when you look at your clock and it’s 4:44 or 5:55 or 6:66–wait that’s not possible! Anyways, this post made no sense.

See you next time 👋🏻👋🏻…

Her Old Skirt…My Old Skirt!

FullSizeRender

Me and my friend (dark hair) created a company, Her Old Skirt. We would be selling upcycled clothing. Upcycling is when you take old things and make them your own. In this case I took an old skirt, and dress I had and created a little purse for us both. The strap was from the dress, and the flower patterned fabric is from my old skirt. When we were making this we decided to create the company Her Old Skirt. It is a connected company to Eye Look. FYI that is my fashion company.

We had a lot of fun making and designing this purse. This is something you should try at home. You could learn how to hand sew, if you don’t have a sewing machine. Sewing is a fun and creative way to make something ‘your own’. I find a lot of joy when people ask me, where did you get that skirt? Then to say that you made it, makes that skirt seem a million times cooler. You’ll have sew much fun!Haha puns 🙂

See you next time… 🙂
